Briefed to "clarify, energise, and illuminate" this speech from the economist, Kate Raworth.
Ambitious Cities is an animation showcasing how one person's inspiration and actions can motivate and energise others to work towards the goal of creating a better city, society, and planet.
The animation is intended to be a proposed future based off of Professor Kate Raworth's 'Doughnut' economics model. Offering an alternative to current mainstream economics where endless expansion and financial growth take priority, the doughnut provides a perspective for meeting the needs of all people without overexploiting the planet's life-giving systems.
It was important to demonstrate a possible future, encouraging audiences to focus on solutions rather than on the negatives of present day societies.
The glow represents an empowerment to use your voice and actions to create the future you want to see, originating from the characters inspiration to develop their city through the incorporation of nature. Its transferable essence shows portrays our ability to inspire others to take on a more active role in the creation of a better future.
After an iterative process of storyboarding, I began designing and animating. In order to maintain the pace of the audio with the narrative of my visuals, I had timed each shot to the beats of Raworth's questions.
I utilised my 3D skills to assist with some of the perspective shots, modelling in a reference in Blender, which came I handy with angles and shadows.
